Kathmandu: The UK has experienced its hottest summer ever recorded, according to preliminary data from the UK Meteorological Department (Met Office).
Between June 1 and August 31, the average temperature reached 16.10°C, surpassing the previous record of 15.76°C set in 2018.
Met Office meteorologist Emily Carlisle explained that the persistent rise in temperature is linked to several factors that trap heat in the atmosphere for longer durations.
Notably, five of the UK’s hottest summers have occurred since 2000, a stark indicator of accelerating climate change.
Experts warn that without the influence of man-made greenhouse gases, a summer like 2025 would occur only once every 340 years. However, in today’s conditions, such extreme heat is expected once every five years—a frequency 70 times greater than natural patterns.
